Becky Walston, a registered nurse in orthopedics at Blessing Hospital, has been recognized as the 113th recipient of the DAISY Award within the Blessing Health System. The DAISY Award honors nurses who provide exceptional care and make a positive impact on patients’ lives.

Walston was nominated by a patient who travels from Jacksonville, Illinois, for appointments. The patient wrote, “My special nurse is wonderful! From the moment I arrive for my appointment until it’s time to go, Becky is caring, considerate, and professional. I arrive from Jacksonville, Illinois, for my appointments, and the drive is well worth it. She greets me with a smile, remembers my name, and always reviews my last visit and updates.

Any questions I have she answers, or finds out the answers. Her professionalism is top-notch and greatly assures me of what I should or will be doing. Along with Dr. Park, they make a dynamic duo, better than Batman and Robin.

I was a police officer for 35 years and know that people are often the first to complain and the last to compliment. Well, this lady needs this compliment and award. She is the best!”

The DAISY Award program began in 1999 as an initiative by the family of a man who died from an immune system disorder. It has since grown to include more than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide.

Nominations for the DAISY Award can be made by patients as well as their families, visitors, physicians, hospital staff members or volunteers to recognize outstanding nursing care.
