John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Oct. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met on October 10, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area. Mr. Bob Rhea, and Ms. Paula Hawley, trustees participated via Zoom. Mr. Andy Sprague, trustee participated in-person. Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker participated in-person.

Also in attendance was Kannon Dickerman, student trustee.

October Board packet was reviewed. This included the consent agenda items, personnel items, and business items.

The business items included adoption of a resolution and certificate abating the tax levied for year 2024 to pay debit service on the General Obligation Refunding Bonds, adoption of a resolution regarding the intent to levy the equity adjustment for the 2024 tax year, approval of an increase in insurance premium costs to JWCC at approximately 8.0% effective January 1, 2025, and discussed options of authorization to accept the lowest bid for PACT classroom construction.

Personnel

Administration received an amicable separation request for consideration which will be discussed in closed session.

Dr. Steven Soebbing has been named the new Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Academic Support Programs.

Director of Business and Industry search is still in progress.

Discussion items

SGA Consideration- Mr. Kannon Dickerman, student trustee, presented a request of consideration on a proposal from Student Government regarding the topic of “safety” of students on 48th street. Their intention is to speak at Quincy City Council on Tuesday evening.

Other

Board Policy 509 – Benefits and procedure 509.1 – Dr. Renfro shared that Administration made some revisions to procedure 509.1. Basically, to be consistent with the staff handbook the wording was changed to regarding “may require a federal financial aid application be on file in the Office of Financial Aid”. Dr. Renfro stated that additional procedures are being reviewed and wanted verification from the Executive Committee if they wanted to see these procedural changes.

Destruction of Closed Session recordings and release/redaction of closed session minutes – Every October closed session minutes and recordings are brought to Board of Trustees for authorization. These were noted to be included in the October packet.
