Illinois 15th Congressional District candidate Mary Miller stated, "The American people are fed up with Joe Biden’s radical agenda, and we are fighting back!" She made this statement in a June 13 Facebook post.

"Today, the Committee on Education & the Workforce passed my resolution to cancel the Biden Administration's Title IX rule," said Mary Christine Miller, according to Facebook. "The American people are fed up with Joe Biden's radical agenda, and we are fighting back!"

In her post, Miller announced that the Committee on Education and the Workforce had shared a video of her speech to the committee regarding President Joe Biden's Title IX changes. According to Miller, "The American people are fed up with men taking away the athletic opportunities from our girls. And they’re horrified at the prospect of our girls having to shower with men and share the locker room with them. Democrats are telling us loud and clear they don’t care about our girls. And if you disagree, Joe Biden is going to punish you and take money away from your schools."

The Title IX rule she referred to was released on April 19, 2024, and will go into effect on August 1, according to a fact sheet from the U.S. Department of Education (US DOE). The US DOE says the final rule protects students, employees, and others from retaliation; supports the right of parents and guardians to act on behalf of their elementary and secondary school children; ensures that schools communicate their nondiscrimination policies and procedures; and prohibits schools from sharing personal information without written consent or when disclosure is made to the parent of a minor.

To rescind the federal rule, Miller and her colleagues are invoking the Congressional Review Act. This would give federal legislators 60 Congressional days to rescind or approve the final rule, although President Biden could still veto the rescission and push the rule through, according to K-12 Dive. Plaintiffs in at least 15 states have sued to keep the rule from going into effect.

Mary Miller is currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing Illinois’ 15th district. She replaced previous U.S Congress member John Shimkus in 2021. Miller graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a BA. Born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1959, she currently lives in Oakland with her husband. They run their fourth-generation family farm together and have seven children and twenty grandchildren.
