Mary Miller, the representative for Illinois' 15th Congressional District, announced that the My Keep Our Girls Safe Act aims to incentivize schools to enhance child protection measures. She emphasized that schools failing in this regard should not receive taxpayer funding. This statement was shared via a Facebook post.

"Schools that fail to protect girls' privacy and safety from biological males have no right to receive taxpayer dollars," said Mary E. Miller, U.S. Representative of Illinois's 15th congressional district (R), according to Facebook. "My Keep Our Girls Safe Act will codify this commonsense accountability measure into law!"

Rep. Chris Miller introduced House Resolution 2452 on March 27, 2025. The resolution seeks to prohibit individuals from using locker rooms designated for a different sex—defined by reproductive biology and genetics at birth—while those rooms are actively used in connection with an educational program or activity. The measure was referred to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on the same day. Thirteen representatives have co-sponsored the resolution, including Claudia Tenney, Harriet Hageman, Sheri Biggs, Thomas Tiffany, Tim Burchett, Burgess Owens, Richard McCormick, Keith Self, Robert Onder, Lauren Boebert, Andy Harris, Mark Harris, and Doug LaMalfa.

According to a news release from Mary Miller's office regarding the introduction of the Keep Our Girls Safe Act, the legislation codifies the Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports Executive Order and mandates schools to protect female-only spaces or face losing federal funding. It further directs withholding federal funding from public schools that deny women and girls access to these spaces. The release also mentioned that on March 18, Miller urged President Trump to revoke federal funding for Deerfield School District 109 after accusations surfaced that Shepard Middle School violated girls' privacy and failed to comply with the executive order.

The incident under scrutiny occurred in February when parent Nicole Georgas addressed the Deerfield School Board at a March 11 meeting. She described how her daughter left the locker room after administrators allegedly tried to coerce her into changing in front of a biological male in the female locker room. Female students at Shepard Middle School reported seeing a boy in their locker room while changing for gym class. Several administrators reportedly reprimanded the girls and attempted to force them to change regardless.

Miller has represented Illinois' 15th Congressional District since 2021 after succeeding John Shimkus. Born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1959, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University. She resides with her husband in Oakland, Illinois where they manage their fourth-generation family farm.
