Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met May 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner, Veteran’s Advisory Commission and Animal Control.

Present were Steve McQueen and Mark Sorenson. Also attending were Ambulance and EMS Director John Simon, Sheriff Tony Grootens and VAC Director Paul Havermale. Excused were Mark Dietrich and Barbara Fletcher.

The meeting was called to order at 5:34 PM.

There was no speaker.

The bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion to approve the minutes of the April 10, 2024, meeting was made by Mark Sorenson and seconded by Steve McQueen, motion carried.

Department Reports

Veterans Assistance Commission- Paul Havermale

Director Havermale stated that since January 2, they have seen 82 clients. There has been an uptick in VA benefit requests.

Sheriff – Sheriff Tony Grootens reported that for the month of March there were: 

1 new hire:

Megan Hendrick - Jail

1 Departure:

Neal Meyer-Court Security

The average jail population was 90.

Sheriff Grootens reports that there are 9 Federal inmates at present.

Emergency Management/Ambulance-Director John Simon

Director Simon reports that they are still working on the siren system.

He also reported on EM day at the Quincy Mall.

Coroner – Written report from Coroner Graham: for the month of March there were:

82 reported deaths

1 autopsy

1 abandoned remain.

35 cremation permits were issued.

0 suicides in April

The Meeting adjourned at 6:16 PM.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the ROE Conference Room.
