Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Oct. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Lisa Schwartz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Nancy Cromie, district secretary, called roll with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer, Keith Barry, Russ Board, Danelle Donley, Corey Hagerbaumer, Trista Neisen and Lisa Schwartz.

Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Greg Buescher, Don Miller and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS

Diane Germann, Alexandra Newcombe, Robyn Zanger, Tahnee Bauer

PUBLIC

Alexandra Newcombe and Robyn Zanger presented the board with the proposed senior class trip itinerary.

AD REPORT

Don Miller shared a report on the status of current sports. Aden Frese was a golf state qualifier and placed 72 overall. Football made it to the playoffs.

CONSENT AGENDA

Barry made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Donna Veile talked about the district report card and designations. The JH/HS received commendable while the elementary received exemplary. There was an update on the weight room, crisis management and a reminder that the November meeting is on Tuesday, November 14th.

SALARY AND BENEFITS REPORT

Donley made a motion to approve the salary and benefits report. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

WRESTLING COOP AGREEMENT

There was discussion on a wrestling coop agreement with Unity. Barry made a motion to approve the wrestling coop agreement and waive the athletic fee for 2023-24 and 2024-25. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Julie Phelan reported on recent fieldtrips: 4th grade went to Springfield to see the Lincoln sites; Kindergarten went to a Quincy fire station and the pumpkin patch; and 5th grade went to see The Hobbit at Quincy Community Theatre. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Oct 25th and 26th. PBIS is supporting a weekly grade level drawing. Read Night will be November 9th and the annual Veterans Day program will be November 10th. PTO held a food drive on October 7th and will be hosting their Halloween party on October 28th. There was a presentation on current activities in Kindergarten.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Greg Buescher reported on the FFA’s annual Feed the Farmer event on October 9th. Football homecoming was the week of September 25th. Several HS students attended an expo at JWCC. Band participated in the annual Barry Apple Festival parade. Parent-teacher conferences will be held October 25th and 26th, with a free meal offered on the 25th. Staff attended a training at Western on October 6th. The all school picnic was held on October 19th. There was a slide presentation on current class activities.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION

Albsmeyer made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: NoneEntered into closed session at 7:39 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION

Neisen made a motion to return to open session. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: NoneReturned to open session at 9:05 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM

Barry made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Hagerbaumer seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

ADDITIONAL ITEMS

There was discussion on sound absorbing panels for the HS gym.
