John Wood Community College Curriculum Committee met Oct. 11

John Wood Community College Curriculum Committee met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting convened at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Present were Mr. Larry Fischer; trustee, Dr. Shelley Barkley; Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs, and Kristina Johnson; note taker. Absent, Ms. Angela Greger; trustee, and Dr. Bryan Renfro; president.

The committee discussed the recommendation to change the number of credit hours for MFG 250, Physical Metallurgy, from two lecture hours and two lab hours to three lecture hours with zero lab hours. The pandemic forced the course delivery of instruction to convert to an online format. As a result, the hands-on lab element was embedded in the online curriculum. With the modification in delivery, the removal of the fifty-five-dollar lab fee for the course was abundant. The course description now reflects the change in modality and the program remains successful and student proficiency continues to be effective.

Other items discussed were catalog changes that affect AA, AS, AES and AFA degrees. The addition of a select group of Fine Arts courses will encompass the course list wherein, satisfy the graduation requirement for international awareness. Also, approved was including all Humanities courses under the Humanities course list, omitting duplication under the Fine Arts course list.

Another subject discussed was the possibility of a collaboration with our Business and Industry partners, to organize a seminar or workshop that would educate effective behavior and service in the workplace.

Meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
