Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met Oct. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Present were Mark Dietrich, Brent Fischer, Barbara Fletcher, and Mark Sorenson. Also attending were Ambulance and EMS Director John Simon, Sheriff Tony Grootens, and Assistant States Attorney Todd Eyler. Excused was Steve McQueen.

The meeting was called to order at 5:36 PM. 

Christina Passmore asked to address the Committee. This is her second visit to the Committee to discuss her issues stemming from the death of Mike Renzulli in March of 2023. She stated that she believes that Coroner Graham has mishandled the remains of Mr. Renzulli and that she is entitled to his remains. She does state that since her last visit to the Committee that the insurance company has received the requested information from the Coroner’s Office and that she has received the insurance payment she was seeking. She states that her attorney, Jack Ingraham, has attempted to contact the States Attorney’s office but has been unable to do so. 

The bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion to approve the minutes of the September 12, 2023, meeting was made by Mark Sorensen and seconded by Mark Dietrich, motion carried.

Department Reports

Emergency Management/Ambulance-Director John Simon

There was no EMS report.

Director Simon reported that the Academy will probably graduate 8 new EMTs.

They have hired a couple of new EMTs and are interviewing more. Their staffing is improving.

 Average Jail Population was 127

The Corrections Officer’s Union voted to reject the contract proposal. The Sheriff then rejected their counterproposal. The contract will now return to arbitration.
