West Central Community Unit School District #235 Board of Education met May 31.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The meeting was called to order by President Schaley at 4:35 p.m. in the District Office Conference Room. The following board members answered roll call: Chockley, Clark, Gullberg, Higgins, Schaley, and Vancil. Bigger absent. President Schaley declared a quorum present. Also present were Superintendent Day and Jason Kirby.
HEARING OFFICER
Motion by Higgins, seconded by Chockley to appoint President Schaley as the presiding hearing officer. On roll call the following members voted aye: Chockley, Clark, Gullberg, Higgins, and Vancil. Schaley abstained. 5-0 Motion carried.
CLOSED SESSION
Motion by Chockley, seconded by Vancil to enter closed session pursuant to the Open Meeting Act - 5 ILCS 120/1 et seq. to hear a student discipline case at 4:36 p.m. Majority of Ayes by Voice Vote. Motion carried.
Motion by Chockley, seconded by Gullberg to return to open session at 4:47 p.m. On Roll call the following members voted aye: Gullberg, Higgins, Schaley, Vancil, Chockley, and Clark. 6-0 Motion Carried.
ACTION ITEM
Motion by Higgins seconded by Gullberg, that the 4-day out of school suspension for Student #25006 shall be upheld and that Student #25006 be expelled from West Central CUSD #235 for violating the District Student Handbook by disobeying rules of student conduct with having drug paraphernalia and alcohol in possession on school grounds. This expulsion is for the 20234-2024 school year and shall be in abeyance in order to allow said student to attend a placement to be determined by the IEP team. Student #25006 may apply for reinstatement at West Central CUSD #235 in August 2024, may be considered by the IEP team pending successful completion of work at the agreed placement during the 2023-2024 school year. The following members voted aye on roll call: Higgins, Schaley Vancil, Chockley, Clark and Gullberg. 6-0 Motion Carried.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Chockley, seconded by Vancil to adjourn at 4:48 p.m. Majority of Ayes by Voice Vote. Motion carried.
