Payson Community Unit School District #1 Board of Education met Nov. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Denise Albsmeyer called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Nancy Cromie, district secretary, called roll with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer, Keith Barry, Danelle Donley, Trista Neisen and Lisa Schwartz . Vinson Sill and Clint Twaddle were absent.

Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Greg Buescher, Barb Speckhart and Nancy Cromie.

Jeff McPherson, Diane Germann, Bob Venvertloh, Tahnee Bauer

AUDIT

Jeff McPherson, from Gray-Hunter-Stenn spoke on the annual audit. This year a Single Audit needs to be completed and it is planned for next week. Once that is completed it will be submitted to ISBE by December 15.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT

Barb Speckhart reported that all students at the elementary now have touch screen devices. There were some security camera enhancements completed. A message from Skyward went out to all guardians regarding the Skyward app.

AD REPORT

Don Miller submitted a report on the status of current sports.

CONSENT AGENDA

Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Donna Veile spoke on a Tax Relief grant and Maintenance grant that the district is applying for. The Non-Resident Tuition Waiver for students of full-time staff was approved by ISBE. The ROE completed their annual personnel file compliance visit. A reminder was given that the December meeting is on Wednesday, December 14. The curriculum committee gave a report.

RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN

Neisen made a motion to approve the Risk Management Plan. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Barry, Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer and Schwartz NAY: None

2022 ESTIMATED TAX LEVY

Schwartz made a motion to approve the 2022 Estimated Tax Levy and set a hearing for December 14, 2022. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer, Barry and Schwartz NAY: None

CLOSED SESSION AUDIO RECORDINGS

Neisen made a motion to destroy all closed session audio recordings older than 18 months. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Neisen, Albsmeyer, Barry, Donley and Schwartz NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Julie Phelan shared that 99% of the parents attended a parent-teacher conference. The Veterans Day program was a huge success thanks to Mrs. Hall, Miss Smart and the cafeteria staff. There were 25 veterans in attendance. Special Persons Day had 125 attendees and a big thanks to the cafeteria staff for their flexibility and hospitality. PTO was able to raise over $5000 from their annual fundraiser. This helps provide extra support to the staff and students. The Payson United Methodist Church donated $1000 to the annual book fair. These funds purchased 126 PreK-6 books. The church is also providing Thanksgiving baskets which will be distributed to 14 families in the district. Mrs. Hall has started code.org lessons with 6th grade. The School Improvement Plan is targeting fact fluency.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Greg Buescher shared that 28% of parents attended parent-teacher conferences. That is up from 18% last year. Mrs. Lepper’s class conducted a dry ice experiment. FFA attended the national convention in late October and while there Evan Wolfmeyer received the Lincoln Electric Scholarship. PBIS held a fundraiser at the elementary Family Read Night and profited almost $500. The seniors won the Class of the Quarter for first quarter. Their reward is a trip to Tangerine Bowl. The National Honor Society met to discuss hosting a dance for the JH students.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION

Barry made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

Entered into closed session at 8:06 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION

Albsmeyer made a motion to return to open session. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

Returned to open session at 8:35 p.m.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS

There was discussion on starting a wrestling program for the district. There was also discussion on tile replacement options for the elementary foyer.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM

Schwartz made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Albsmeyer seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

ADJOURNMENT

Schwartz made a motion to adjourn. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer, Barry and Schwartz NAY: None
