JWCC Partners with Local Church for Free Computer Literacy Instruction

JWCC Partners with Local Church for Free Computer Literacy Instruction

Bethel AME Church is hosting literacy classes for the public while partnering with John Wood Community College for instruction. The classes are free and open to the public. Ginny Skeffington is the main JWCC instructor.

Classes started November 22 and are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the church. There is no end date as of now. Registration is not required at this time as it is on a first come first serve basis. More computers may be added as a need arises.

Attendees do not have to be a member of the church to attend. The program is open to all. Bethel AME Church Pastor Carl R. Terry III wants everyone to have access and knowledge to better their lives and to serve the community. If the program goes well, Pastor Terry may consider starting a children’s class in addition to the computer literacy class.

This summer, Bethel AME Church gave away over 360 free computers and chrome books. To date, many of the computers that were given away have yet to be set up. The Church wants to further support this initiative by providing more instructional support and the tools for success.

Bethel AME Church is located at 905 Oak Street, Quincy, IL 62301. For more information, please contact JWCC Director of CTE Programming Kayla Wentz at 217.641.4957 or kwentz@jwcc.edu. Bethel AME Church’s number is 217-223-9717.
