Payson Community Unit School District #1 Board of Education met May 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER Lisa Schwartz, president, called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

ROLL CALL Nancy Cromie, district secretary, called roll with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer, Danelle Donley, Trista Neisen, Vinson Sill, Clint Twaddle and Lisa Schwartz.  Chanse Barker was absent.

Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Dawn VanCamp, Barb Speckhart, Don Miller and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS Diane Germann, Sharon Allensworth, Tina Speagle, Tahnee Bauer and Erica Marshall

PUBLIC Sharon Allensworth, Tina Speagle and Erica Marshall addressed the board regarding their children and grandchildren and the safe school policy.

AD REPORT Don Miller gave a report on baseball and softball regionals.  Mason Haden, a junior high track athlete, placed 3rd in the 100m, 4th in the 200m and 8th in the high jump at state.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT Barb Speckhart talked about tweaks to the sound system for graduation and reviewing of tech websites and apps for SOPPA.

Sill left at 7:30 p.m.  Twaddle left at 7:32 p.m.

CONSENT AGENDA  Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the consent agenda.  Schwartz seconded the motion.  AYE: Albsmeyer, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz   NAY:  None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Donna Veile talked about grants, summer work and an Employee Tuition Waiver application.  The FY22 budget will need to be amended so there will be a hearing on June 16.

SOPPA OFFICER Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the reappointment of Barb Speckhart as the SOPPA officer.  Schwartz seconded the motion.  AYE:  Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer and Schwartz   NAY:  None

ELEMENTARY HOT LUNCH PRODUCTS BID Neisen made a motion to approve the 2022-23 Kohl’s bid for elementary hot lunch products.  Donley seconded the motion.   AYE:  Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer and Schwartz   NAY:  None

Barker arrived at 7:55 p.m.

MILK BID Donley made a motion to approve the 2022-23 Prairie Farms firm milk bid.  Neisen seconded the motion.  AYE:  Neisen, Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley and Schwartz   NAY:  None

HYVEE LUNCH RENEWAL Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the 2022-23 HyVee lunch renewal contract for the junior high/high school.  Schwartz seconded the motion.  AYE:  Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz   NAY:  None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Julie Phelan shared various student activities, staff trainings and special days celebrated at the elementary.    The seniors came over for their annual “graduation walk” on May 13. 

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Dawn VanCamp gave a report on various student activities and special days celebrated at the junior high/high school.  She shared graduation activities.  Credit Recovery will be offered again this summer.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION Barker made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session.   Donley seconded the motion.  AYE:  Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz   NAY:  None

Entered into closed session at 8:04 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION Neisen made a motion to return to open session.  Donley seconded the motion.  AYE:  Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley, Neisen and Schwartz   NAY:  None  

Returned to open session at 9:26 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM  Barker made a motion to approve the personnel addendum.  Neisen seconded the motion.  AYE:  Barker, Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer and Schwartz   NAY:  None

ADJOURNMENT Barker made a motion to adjourn.  Neisen seconded the motion.   AYE:  Donley, Neisen, Albsmeyer, Barker and Schwartz   NAY:  None                                                        

Meeting adjourned at 9:28 p.m.
