John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Dec. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met at 8:00 a.m. Attendees were Ms. Diane Ary, Mr. Larry Fischer, and Mr. Bob Rhea trustees, (via Zoom) Mr. Michael Elbe, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker, in person.

Board Agenda Items - President Elbe

Consent Agenda Items:

• Financials, bills, investments, and employee travel expenditures

Grant Agenda items:

Business Agenda Items:

The committee discuss the business agenda items being presented in December. They included

• Adoption of a Resolution and Certificate relating to levying additional taxes

• Adoption of a Resolution to levy taxes and Certificate of the tax levy

• Authorization to pay the second half of the ICCTA dues in the amount of $4,028

• Adoption of resolutions on the sale of the bonds

• Authorization to accept the proposal and award the CDL Truck Driving simulator to Virage Simulation Inc. in the amount of $111,895

Discussion Items:

Spring Enrollment Update – The committee heard enrollment for the Spring term is tracking behind last year’s enrollment. Events have been planned to increase these numbers. The adult population was noted as one category tracking behind.

Employee Progressive Exclusion Plan - The college is continuing their practice to meet the mandates of the governor for Covid-19.

Board Policy Review Update – Mr. Fischer, Dr. Greenwell, and Ms. Hawley reviewed Chapter 4 and will begin to review Chapter 5. Upon completion of all chapters the entire Board will be presented the proposed changes for approval.

Board Christmas Plans – The committee was reminded of the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board members joint Christmas dinner this year. The date of the event is December 14. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:00 p.m. at the Quincy Country Club.

They also heard of all college Christmas event on December 10 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Orr Corporation and Multi-Purpose Ag Facility - This facility is now under roof. Work will continue during the winter months on interior completion. The committee heard the estimated cost of technology installation in the building is $225,000. Further discussion was held on this topic.

EDA/WDC Expansion Project Update - A meeting is scheduled to review the WDC design. Once this has been completed the project will move forward. It is anticipated to be completed by fall of 2023.

Succession Planning - The committee heard and discussed the need to plan for the succession of vacant positions that will be happening over the next several years. Faculty representation have been asked to be part of a sub-committee to review this topic.

Tenure eligible faculty – Non-tenured faculty candidates who completed the necessary requirements and are eligible for tenure beginning fall of 2022 are Rick Gertz, Joni Smith, Justin Lewis, and Matt Carey.
