John Wood Community College Board of Trustees Executive met Sept. 9.

The Executive Committee met on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 8:30 a.m. Attendees were: Ms. Diane Ary, Mr. Larry Fischer, trustees, (via Zoom) Mr. Michael Elbe, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker, in person. Mr. Bob Rhea absent.

Consent Agenda Items:
•Regular Board minutes
•Financials, bills, investments, and employee travel expenditures
Grant Agenda items:
•Two grant applications will be presented for approval in September. One is for GAST (Grant of Agriculture Science Teachers) and the second one to IGEN for multiple projects.
Business Agenda Items:
•Authorization for a geothermal vault awarding to Durbin Geothermal, Inc. in the amount of $95,000. The geothermal heating and cooling system at the Student Activity Center developed a large crack in the supply line inside the buried vault.
•Adoption of a Resolution for the issue of $5,000,000 Debt Certificate. These funds are necessary to provide the matching funds for the Workforce Development expansion project along with other capital improvement projects.
•Adoption of the 2022-2023 Academic Calendar due to the Election Day holiday requirement and Juneteenth recognition.
Discussion Items:
•Faculty negotiations – Collective Bargaining Agreement - The update will be provided in closed session. Administration/faculty have tentatively finalized items of discussion. Faculty will have the opportunity to review the updated agreement for a vote; Administration will update the Board at the September meeting. A final ratification by the Board is anticipated to be placed on the October Board of Trustees meeting agenda for a vote.
•Board Retreat - The Board will have their fall retreat on Monday, September 27. The retreat will begin at 8:30 at the Workforce Development Center. (this is a location change from previously discussed). An agenda was reviewed. Mr. Noah Gay will survey students on the post pandemic landscape and will share the results at the retreat. Cabinet members will be in attendance for part of the meeting.
•Governor’s Executive Order - The Executive Committee heard details of the recent governor order regarding COVID-19. The college is working to comply with the testing/vaccination mandates from this order. This order will require the college to hire additional personnel to assist with testing and compliance of.
•Employee and Student Progressive Discipline Plan - Progressive discipline of non-compliance of this executive order mandate was discussed.
