JOHN WOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Fall Registration Open Now for JWCC’s College For Life Program

1

John Wood Community College issued the following announcement on July 8

JWCC’s College for Life (CFL) program is for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

“John Wood’s mission is to make education accessible to all members of the communities we serve and to promote lifelong learning for everyone,” shared Diane Vose, JWCC manager of regional centers and community-based outreach.  “Before this program, inclusive educational programs after high school didn’t exist. College for Life is another way to help students keep learning and growing, which benefits the entire community.”

About the College for Life program:

  • Non-credit courses designed for diverse learners
  • Focus on foundational skills for work and life success
  • Core courses in self-advocacy, future planning, personal finance, job search and workforce preparation, positive communication, and healthy relationships
  • Elective courses designed to promote academic skills practice and exposure to new topics and ideas
  • Individual academic tutoring available
  • Campus inclusion as a JWCC student
“The beauty of this program is that for the first time, these students will have the opportunity to take the first step into college to develop their skills and gifts to make meaningful contributions to our communities,” said Michele Westmaas, JWCC coordinator for CFL. “CFL students have so many ways they can make a difference; we just need to give them a path to make it happen.”

Registration for Fall 2021 College for Life courses is open now for classes beginning August 17.  To register, please visit jwcc.edu/cfl.  For more information, please contact Michele Westmaas at 217-641-4340.
