Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, April 26, 2021 in the Board of Education Office (Gym and Room #126) in Augusta, Illinois. John Eilers, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the March 22, 2021 regular meeting and closed session.

Public Participation

We Stand for Our Students gave a presentation to the board regarding COVID.

Special Recognition

Superintendent Fox presented the Board Excellence Awards which included IJAS Region 10 Science Fair, Illinois State Scholar, Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 1A All-State Team, and April Sun of the Month.

Financial

Superintendent Fox reviewed the monthly financial snapshot which shows we are 75% into the fiscal year. We have received 89% of our budgeted revenue and have spent 66% of our budgeted expenditures.

On a motion by Member O’Neal and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox gave COVID-19 update to the board.

Superintendent Fox discussed with the board the ESSER I, II, and III grant funds.

Superintendent Fox informed the board of the plans for Prom 2021, Graduation 2021, and summer school. Superintendent Fox presented the end of the year dates.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the Easter break meal distribution.

Superintendent Fox discussed the West Point busing with the board.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the open positions for the 2021-2022 school year.

Administrative reports were given with Mrs. Lantz reporting the number of students signed up for summer school. State testing began today. The staff is looking at new curriculum which can be purchased with federal ESSER grant money.

On a motion by Member O’Neal and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:35 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity and collective negotiating matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. The Board of Education returned to Open Session at 9:10 p.m.

Action Items

The motion to approve the renewal of Southeastern’s Illinois Elementary School Association membership for the 2021-2022 school year was tabled to a future date.

On a motion by Member O’Neal and a second by Member Bruenger, the Board of Education approved the FY22 school calendar as presented.

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved the July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board of Education and the Southeastern Education Association as presented.

On a motion by Member Bruenger and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved a $1 per hour increase for all non-certified personnel for 2021-2022 school year.

On a motion by Member O’Neal and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education accepted the resignation of Donna Bruenger in the position of paraprofessional and media specialist aide effective at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
