John Wood Community College Board of Trustees met Feb. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting convened at 2:00 p.m. Present were Mr. Mike Elbe, president; Mr. Don Hess, trustee (via zoom); Dr. Laurel Klinkenberg, vice president of instruction and note taker (via zoom); absent was Mr. Jim Gay, trustee.

Welding courses were discussed as follows:

New courses: WLD 132 TIG Non-Ferrous Metals (2 credit hours) and WLD 135 Flux Core Inner and Dual Shield Weld (2 credit hours).

The two new courses within Welding Certificate will combine 2 courses each that are currently 1 credit hour to now a single course that is 2 credit hours. This will allow more time to assess student achievement in meeting the objectives and engagement. The 1 credit hour courses that will be deleted include: WLD 122 Flux Core Inner Shield, WLD 123 Flux Core Dual Shield, WLD 128 TIG Welding Aluminum, WLD 129 TIG Welding Stainless Steel

New course: WLD 170 Specialized Welding (1 credit hour) – This course will incorporate the new welding robot into the curriculum and is taken at the end of second semester before the capstone course.

Other welding course deletion: WLD 130- Welding Inspection and Testing (1 credit hour) will be deleted and material will be embedded into WLD 126- Stick Welding II.

Education course change: EDU 245 Curriculum II (3 credit hours).

Changing from 4 credit hours to 3 credit hours to better align with amount of covered course content and objectives.
