John Wood Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 16.
John Wood Community College Workforce Development Center will offer a Lifting and Rigging class on Friday, November 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The class is open to the public, no application is necessary, but individuals are required to make a reservation to attend. The class will take place at JWCC’s Workforce Development Center, 4220 Kochs Lane, Quincy.
The course will cover the right way to lift an object with your hands or a mechanical device, how to strap a load down, as well as how to use various lifting devices. Other topics to be covered include why ergonomics is part of lifting, what is engineering controls, what are work practices, what is too much weight, who is a qualified rigger, what is OSHA’s crane rule, what are audible signals, what is the standard method, and more. The cost is $85 per person.
