Quincy University issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

Quincy University has announced the recipients of the 2020 Heritage Honor Awards. Dr. William Dolan ’70 was named The Bill O’Donnell Distinguished Alumni of the Year, Paul Brown ’65, is the recipient of the Franciscan Service Award and Brady Killion ’13, is the recipient of the Rising Hawk Award. The Heritage Honors are the highest honor bestowed by Quincy University upon an outstanding alumna or alumnus. The awards salute the achievements of alumni whose personal lives, professional achievements, and community service exemplify the objectives of their alma mater.

A chemistry major, Dr. Dolan attended the Medical College of Wisconsin after graduating from QU. He completed his general surgery training at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Following his medical training, he joined the Franciscan Order and served 15 years as a physician with Esperanca, an international organization that works to improve health and provide hope through disease prevention, education, and treatment striving for health equity for everyone.

He left the Franciscans in 1986 but continued serving as a missionary until 1994 when he began to work at the Phoenix VA Medical Center. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1992, and the Navy Reserves in 2000. In later years, he joined the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, where he currently teaches today.

“Dr. Dolan has been a very loyal supporter of Quincy University over the past 50 years,” said Matt Bergman ’99, director of development, alumni and community relations. “When we think of a member of the alumni community who exemplifies the gifts of the Franciscan spirit, Bill is one of the first that comes to mind.

Paul Brown ’65 graduated from Quincy College with a degree in management. He earned an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago. He retired on October 31, 2004, as CFO of Pueblo Community Health Center in Pueblo, Colo. and previously held positions as an administrator of Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Mo; director of fiscal services at Blessing Hospital, Quincy; business manager of the Quincy Herald-Whig newspaper and assistant to the president at Quincy College. After he graduated and entered the workforce, Brown recognized that he could make the world a better place by serving others and the communities that he was a part of. For over 50 years, Brown has tirelessly shared his time, talent and treasure with Quincy University, local organizations and the less fortunate.

Brady Killion ’13 played football at QU and graduated with a degree in management. After graduation, he worked as a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual in Newport Beach, Calif. He currently lives in Nashville, Tenn. and is the youngest senior enterprise executive for Toshiba America. Killion is active in his community serving at the USO-Nashville, working with and for Coaches of Influences, and working with the homeless in downtown Nashville. Killion comes back to campus for football games and stays in close contact with those who had a positive impact on his QU experience, but most importantly, he strives to make an impact on students on campus today.

“When I went to QU, I was supported by scholarship, both athletic and academic. I believe it is important to give back. If that wasn’t there when I attended, I don’t know if I could have gone to QU,” said Killion. “I am very thankful and want to give back as much as I can.”

The honorees will be recognized this year during QU’s Virtual Homecoming week and in- person at the 2021 Homecoming festivities.
