The following minutes are tentative and will not become official minutes of the Board of Education until their scheduled approval at the next regular meeting.

Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, May 11, 2020 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Due to the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-07 and 2020-18 suspending the requirement of in-person attendance, the board meeting was held virtually via Zoom video conference. Bobbi Smith, Board Secretary, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Agenda Items

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the agenda items as presented.

Approval of Minutes

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the April 27, 2020 regular meeting.

Special Recognition

Financial

Superintendent Fox reviewed the monthly financial snapshot which shows we are 83% into the fiscal year. We have received 88% of budgeted revenue and have spent 82% of the budgeted expenditures.

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox reviewed the Open Positions for the 2020-2021 school year.

Superintendent Fox reminded the board of the upcoming virtual high school graduation on Sunday, May 17, 2020. A diploma parade will follow.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the tax computation sheets for the 2019 tax year.

Superintendent Fox reported on the Teacher Parade held on Friday, May 1, 2020. It went very well and was enjoyed by staff and students. Students can return packets, books, etc. from 1-4 p.m. on May 14, 15, 21, and 22 as a drive-through method with social distancing and safety measures taken.

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the superintendent to advertise for bid openings for milk, bread and fuel for the 2020-2021 school year.

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member Tippey, the Board of Education approved the FY2021 board meeting dates, time, and locations as presented.

On a motion by Member Winters and a second by Member O’Neal, the Board of Education approved the Option 2 of the Matt Martin Consulting contract as presented.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the following board policies (2nd reading): 2:125 Board Member Compensation; Expenses, 2:160 Board Attorney, 4:50 Payment Procedures, 5:35 Compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, 5:50 Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace; E-Cigarette, Tobacco, and Cannabis Prohibition, 5:60 Expenses, 5:150 Personnel Records, 5:210 Resignations, 5:280 Duties and Qualifications, 6:135 Accelerated Placement Program, 6:235 Access to Electronic Networks, 6:280 Grading and Promotion, 7:70 Attendance and Truancy, 7:90 Release During School Hours, 7:130 Student Rights and Responsibilities, 7:325 Student Fundraising Activities, 8:10 Connection with the Community, 8:30 Visitors to and Conduct on School Property, 8:80 Gifts to the District, 8:110 Public Suggestions and Concerns.

On a motion by Member Holst and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education approved the employment of Hannah Brown, Shanna Drake, Kassie Henry, Kenzie Orris, Ashly Reavis, and Terri Tobias in the position of long-term substitute for the 2020-2021 school year.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Winters, the Board of Education voted to adjourn the meeting at 7:14 p.m.
