Adams County Board Public Health and Safety Committee met August 20

Adams County Board Public Health and Safety Committee met Aug. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present: Marvin Kerkoff, Mark Peters, Seldon Totch and Becky Weed

Special Guests: Chuck Bevelheimer

Spoke on the process and cost of dealing with abandoned and nuisance properties.

 City has all legal, maintenance and demolition expenses then property is turned over to Trustee (Adams County Treasure) for disposission. The county then retains any proceeds from the sale of these properties.

Recommendations: Talk with Treasurer and Legislative & Judicial Committee to see if we should have the properties revert to the city.

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

Department / Representatives:

Sheriff Dept – Joe Obermeyer

 Legislation may soon require all cats to receive rabies vaccinations (1/2020)

 Head count in the Jail was 130

 Dept still looking into full body scanner and looking for funding for this $140,000 expense.

Emergency Management – John Simon

 Assessments for private properties were completed last week.

 It will still be a couple of months out for final numbers.

 Ambulance meeting 8/27 @ 7 pm at JWCC for consultants to present their findings of the study (funded by the city of Quincy) that looked at possible deficiencies between tri-township, city fire and ambulance services.

Coroner — John Myers sent written report via email

For the Month of July 2019

 There were 76 reported deaths.

 There were a total of three autopsies.

 There were no unclaimed/indigent Cremations.

 There were 39 cremation permits issued.

 There were an average of 35 cremations permits issued monthly this FY2019.

 The County Highway Department has removed their stored items from the coroner van garage area and the office has organized their supplies and equipment.

 The proposed FY2020 budget, has been submitted to the Finance Committee.
