Quincy Public Library issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.
Quincy Public Library is pleased to offer extended hours for patrons in an effort to make the library more accessible for users. Effective immediately, QPL is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 8 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. Hours were extended after the results of a patron survey conducted earlier this summer showed requests of longer hours and more evening hours.
“Later hours will hopefully provide families and individuals that work through the day a greater opportunity to take advantage of the libraries programs and services,” said QPL Director Kathleen Helsabeck.
In addition to later hours, QPL is also offering evening programming this fall, including a story time for children on Thursdays, and game nights, coloring nights, and other programs for adults.
Increased accessibility is a key component of the library’s strategic plan through 2022. In addition to the extended hours at their primary location at 526 Jersey St., QPL offers a wide variety of other resources for those who can’t make it to the library during traditional times.
Books may be returned after hours at book return boxes at QPL, Quincy Mall, Wal-Mart, Harrison Hy-vee, Save-a-Lot on 12th Street, Country Market at 48th Street, and Lincoln Douglas School. Patrons may also call ahead and QPL staff will put material in hold lockers that can be picked up anytime at QPL, County Market at 48th Street, or Lincoln Douglas School. Additionally, the library provides home delivery to any patron who is temporarily or permanently unable to visit the library.
Residents of the city of Quincy, and the townships of Melrose, Riverside, Ellington, and part of Gilmer are eligible to take advantage of all of these services at no cost with a library card.
