Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met May 28.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

Public Health & Safety Committee

Met Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 7 pm in the Law Library

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present: Seldon Totsch,, Marvin Kerkoff, Robert Reich, Mark Peters and Becky Weed

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

Our committee approved minutes of April 16, 2019 meeting

Department / Representatives:

Sheriff Dept – Brian Vonderhaar

• Jail population 124 today.

• SWAP has no eligible inmates to go out to do the jobs for county (ie: mowing cemetaries, clean up from events, etc)

• Department is dealing with mechanicle issues with several squad cars.

• Officers have taken the 2 day mandatory training on CPR, Firearms and Narcotics.

Emergency Management – John Simon

• River levels are a concern but current crest predictions are managable at this point.

• He is re-opening EOC – Emergency Operations Center tomorrow.

• He is continually talking to all levy districts.

• Road closures expected.

• Radio system programming in squad and ambulance rigs this week.

• Quincy Fire and Police programming will occur next week.

• He mentioned that the ambulance service continues to work on collections with some success.

Coroner — John Myers sent written report via email

• There were 66 reported deaths in the month of April 2019.

• There were a total of seven autopsies in the month of April 2019.

• There were two indigent Cremations in the month of April2019. One was handled by the Coroner’s Office at the cost of $200 and the other handled through local funeral home at the cost of $500.

• There were 28 cremation permits issued in the month of April 2019.

• There were an average of 34 cremations permits issued monthly this FY2019.

• Department transferred $20K our of post mortems line to cover salaries.

• 4 tablets were returned by the police. They are now used to get weekend reporting turned in more timely.

• State of Illinois is reimbursing funeral homes on public aid recipients – not governmental entities.
