QUINCY PUBLIC LIBRARY: Book Review-Illegal

Books

Quincy Public Library issued the following announcement on June 11.

The children’s graphic novel Illegal by Eoin Colfer is the staff’s favorite book this week is. Ebo is twelve years old and is on a perilous journey with his older brother Kwame. One of them will not survive to see freedom. When Kwame leaves their village in Africa to find their sister who has immigrated to Europe, Ebo sets out to join him. From the exhausting dry sands of the Sahara Desert to over-crowded rafts crossing the Mediterranean, Ebo’s journey is fantastically illustrated by Andrew Donkin’s color illustrations.

Soldiers and sharks don’t stop the boys until finally, within arm’s reach of success, something does. The simple text and detailed images convey the desperation of a child refugee’s mission in high-interest and low level reading style. This book is suitable for third grade and above.

These book is available for checkout at the Quincy Public Library if you have a current Quincy Public Library card. Reciprocal borrowing cards from other area libraries will be honored as well. Materials may be available in a variety of formats including audio books, digital books, large print, regular print, and/or may be available from other libraries through the Resource Sharing Alliance. You may also place reserves on library materials and check your patron record online at www.quincylibrary.org.
