State Senator Jil Tracy | Illinois General Assembly
Concerns regarding the stability of Illinois' power supply have led Senate Republican lawmakers to advocate for bolstering the state's energy generation, especially through nuclear developments. At a press conference in Springfield on April 3, State Senators Sue Rezin, Sally Turner, and Terri Bryant discussed challenges to the state's power grid and emphasized the potential benefits of new nuclear technology.
They cited Senate Bill 1527, which would remove the state’s moratorium on new nuclear reactors. This legislation could permit Illinois to utilize advanced nuclear technology, aiming to offer cleaner, reliable, and affordable energy for residents. Senator Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) emphasized the need for prompt legislative action to address growing energy needs and maintain Illinois’ status in nuclear innovation.
Additionally, Senate Bill 94 was introduced to require foreign-owned data centers to generate their own energy, reducing stress on the state's power grid. The proposal addresses the rising energy demands from new technology sectors. The senators linked these initiatives to safeguarding energy reliability and promoting economic growth.
Senate Republicans are also focused on strengthening anti-trafficking laws with Senate Bill 267, mandating sex offender registration for those who exploit individuals, including in pornography. Current laws do not automatically impose registration requirements on traffickers. Senator Tracy highlighted the necessity of closing legal loopholes to protect vulnerable individuals, especially children.
April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month with the theme "Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention," focusing on community support to preempt abuse. Senator Tracy pointed out the significance of providing families with resources like counseling and mental health services. Various awareness initiatives, including press conferences and art exhibits, are scheduled across Illinois in April to support this cause.
