CITY OF QUINCY: Greg Sharpe is Crew leader for the Paint and Sign Shop

Announcement

City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Oct. 23.

Greg Sharpe is Crew leader for the Paint and Sign Shop. Come December he will be with the City of Quincy for 33 years. He started when he was only 21. He loves working outside and the guys he works with. The typical day for him can vary, because the shop is in charge of putting up all the signs in town, striping the streets, painting the curbs, barricading the streets and plowing the snow in the winter. One thing many probably don’t know about them is, typically the City tries to reuse signs. When you suddenly see a vibrant new stop sign, handicap or no parking signs, to name a few, they are typically just new faces. The City tries to reuse the metal sign, and just place a new “face” or sticker on the sign. However, they hand make the entire street name signs letter by letter. They are in charge of striping all of the roads; their paint machine is from 1998. They are the ones that make sure all road barricades are up, they typically spend a few hours every Monday and Friday to place barricades for different events or to go collect them after the event. They are in charge of plowing all the streets in Quincy. He wants to remind citizens of Quincy that they are just trying to do their job, and to respect them when driving on the street, to reduce your speed and to stay far enough back to make sure everyone stays safe while on the road.
