Central Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met March 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education met at 6:30 p.m. on March 20, 2025, for their regular meeting  in the board of education office.  

Following the prayer and pledge, President Kestner called the meeting to order.  Guests present: Nikki Buehler and Jason Aeilts.  

President Kestner asked if there were any questions and/or comments from the  public, hearing none, the meeting continued.

Curriculum  

• The curriculum committee will meet on April 10th.    

Board Action Items  

• Approved Two-hour Delayed Start. 

• Approved Senior Class Trip Itinerary. 

• Approve 2025-2026 School Calendar.  

Informational/Discussion Items  

• Congratulations to Karly Peters for being named senior of the month for March.  • Co-Op Discussion 

• Athletic Director Brad Dixon discussed our current co-op agreements.  

• All contracts are up for renewal.  

• Brad Dixon will be in discussions with our current co-op schools in the following month.    

Building Report  

Amanda Shoopman – Central Early Childhood  

o Enrollment Numbers – 118 students  

o Welcomed Beth Crim as our new secretary.  

o Named Janet Miller Staff Member of the Month for March.  

o Showed our skills with STAR testing.  

o Prepared for severe weather with a tornado drill.  

o Learned about animal health from a visit with veterinarian, Dallas Duncan Klauser. 

o Started March Reading Madness for Read Across America.    

Curriculum Director Report  

o Surveying staff about product usage and goals in classrooms to determine purchased products  for next school year. 

o May 28-29 will be work days for implementation of UFLI phonics curriculum for  kindergarten, first, and second grade. Implementation/training videos will take approximately  half of the time, with the other half being filled with preparing materials for the classroom. 

o Meeting with curriculum companies and tech representatives to discuss changes to their  programs and how this will affect our product usage. 

o Continued curriculum observations at CJHS and started at CES.   

Chevi Ingalls – Central Elementary School  

o Enrollment Numbers – 224 students  

o Kinley won the votes for the Mini-Relay shirt design at CES.  

o Students are doing well with getting their AR points.  

o Kids Heart Challenge assembly with silly string/slime. We raised $9,303.42!  

o The first week in March, we celebrated Literacy Week. They received their Book Blast home  libraries during our celebrations.  

o 3rd & 4th Grade Academic & Interest Fair was a success. We had a lot of families at CES.  

o In PE, Karver was the first to earn his blackbelt. 

Tracy Rhea – Central Junior High School  

o Enrollment numbers – 217 students  

o JH Volleyball has finished their season. Congratulations to the 7th grade girls team on winning  regionals! Congratulations to Jack Welch (Runner-Up) and Cael Griffin (3rd place), and the rest of the wrestling team on a successful season! JH Track has started. We currently have 46 7th/8th grade  students on the track team. 

o Current amount raised for Mini Relay is $1,532.78 (Through 3/14/25). Chuck-A-Duck fundraiser 3/17  – 3/20. Students pay $1 to buy a duck and attempt to be closest to the target.  

o Wesley Brasch, 8th grader, won the junior high and district t-shirt design contest. 

Zak Huston – Central High School  

o Enrollment Numbers – 224 students 

o Elijah Genenbacher and Lauren Miller were named to the IHSA All-State Academic honorable  mention team.  

o On March 6th, Elijah Perry and Gabby Chatten interviewed at the Illinois FFA District 3 Proficiency  Interviews. Gabby Chatten interviewed in Small Animal Production for her Rabbit SAE. Elijah Perry  won at Districts and is advancing to State Proficiency interviews on March 22nd at Mt. Zion, IL. His  SAE is on Forage Production and is in the top 5 for the State of Illinois in Forage Production.   

Superintendent Report  

• Mini Relay for Life – May 7st, rain date May 8th 

• Last student attendance day – May 23rd 

• We will be updating our website this summer  

o Applying for a Tracy Family Foundation Grant to cover the cost 

• April 1st is the election for new school board members; our organizational meeting will be held on  April 24th, time to be determined.  

• Bella Vermillion is requesting the opportunity to create a Color Guard to be used during marching  band season. During marching competitions, the band automatically loses 100 points not having a  Color Guard in place.    

Executive Session  

• Held at 8:30 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:56 p.m.
