Liberty FPD responds to 17 fires in 2017

Liberty Fire Protection District responded to 18 calls in 2017 - 157.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Liberty included 17 fires - four structure fires, three vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $3 in fire loss.

The department also received one false call.

The Libertyville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 41 active employees and 27 retired or inactive employees, was $1,442,326 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $206,047 for every fire in 2016.
