Ted Dabrowski, a gubernatorial candidate for Illinois, said restoring literacy and numeracy is a top priority and highlighted proficiency lags in Quincy during a meet and greet event in Macomb.

"Just 31% of students in Quincy can read at grade level and just 20% can do math. Yet officials allow 83% to graduate while spending more than $19,000 per student," said Dabrowski. "One of my top priorities as governor will be to restore literacy and numeracy to Illinois schools."

At the event, Dabrowski engaged with local Republicans and discussed classroom results and core skills after conversing with John Meixner, the Regional Superintendent for Fulton, Hancock, McDonough, and Schuyler counties. The gathering was organized by McDonough County Republican Chairwoman Gwynne Worthington, indicating strong local involvement in educational priorities.

According to Quincy Public Schools' official Illinois Report Card, district-level figures are available on English language arts and math proficiency, graduation rates, and other indicators. Parents and stakeholders can review this data to compare proficiency trends with graduation outcomes and assess performance at both district and school levels.

The Illinois State Board of Education provides spending context through its Operating Expense per Pupil (OEPP) metric. This metric captures a district’s gross operating cost divided by average daily attendance, allowing for comparisons across districts over time. It informs debates on effectiveness relative to expenditures reported on the Illinois Report Card.

Dabrowski is not only a Republican candidate for governor but also serves as president of Wirepoints, a policy research group focused on Illinois finances, education, and governance. He previously held the position of vice president of policy at the Illinois Policy Institute and has international experience in banking. He launched his 2026 gubernatorial bid in September 2025.
