John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Aug. 14.

The Executive Committee met on August 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in room C252, Student Administrative Center, president’s area. Ms. Paula Hawley, and Mr. Andy Sprague, trustees, participated via Zoom, Mr. Bob Rhea, trustee. Mr. Josh Welker, interim president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker participated in-person.

Consent items:
• Minutes,
• Bills, travel expenditures, and
• Curriculum presented for the month
Grant items:
• Acceptance of grant funds from Illinois Community College Board for the Adult Education and Literacy grant, Award Amount: $257,000 State funding - $151,964 (federal funding pending)
• Acceptance of grant funds from Illinois State Library/Jesse White Secretary of State for the Adult Volunteer Literacy grant, Award Amount: $95,082
Business Items:
• Authorization to enter into a 13-month lease agreement with Illinois Valley Paving at the Agricultural Center
• Approval to transfer $120,000 from Operating Funds to Auxiliary Fund
• Approval to transfer $380,000 from Operating Funds to Restricted Purpose Fund
• Authorization to accept the bid from SJ Smith Company in the amount of $82,463.10
Personnel:
• Acknowledgement for years of service to the College was given to Lou Barta, Director of Facilities. Mr. Barta submitted his retirement notice as of September 5.
• Heard a basketball coach has been hired.
• Heard an update on a collective bargaining matter.
Discussion items:
• Reminder of the Wine - Pull is September 18 @ 5:00 at Quincy Country Club.
• Heard City of Quincy, and GREDF are exploring a Sports Complex.
• If awarding of funds for the TRIO program is allocated it is anticipated to be known by September 1st.
Other:
• Discussion was held on the presidential search process, discussing the timeline and responsibilities included in the consultant contract. A presidential profile document will be reviewed and updated.
