Mary Miller, the representative for Illinois' 15th Congressional District, has called for the dismissal of Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough following her decision to remove sections from the Senate version of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
"Fire the parliamentarian," said Mary E. Miller, U.S. Representative of Illinois's 15th congressional district (R), according to Facebook.
According to CNN, MacDonough, who was appointed in 2012, faced criticism after advising that certain policies in the bill could not be included. Her role involves advising senators during a process known as a "Byrd bath," which identifies provisions that cannot advance because they are unrelated to spending or taxes. The Senate must adhere to specific budget rules to pass the bill with a simple majority of 51 votes. A notable provision struck down by MacDonough involved proposed changes to state taxes used to fund Medicaid.

Miller expressed her views on Facebook, sharing screenshots of another post on X from Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller responding to a post by President Trump. In her post, Miller said that 77 million Americans elected Trump and should not be undermined by an unelected Senate staffer whom she believes should be fired. Trump's post supported Congressman Greg Steube's objection to MacDonough’s decision regarding the Medicaid provider tax portion of the bill.
Miller is currently serving in the U.S. Congress and represents Illinois’ 15th district. She succeeded John Shimkus in 2021 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1959, Miller resides in Oakland with her family and continues to manage their fourth-generation family farm alongside her husband.
