Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education met May 5.

REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING AND ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Call to Order

The Regular Business meeting and the Organizational meeting of the Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District 181, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, was called to order by Board President Bill Cotter at 5:03 p.m. on May 5, 2025, at Hinsdale Middle School, 100 S. Garfield Ave., Hinsdale, IL.

Roll Call

Jean Duggan, Recording Secretary, took roll call. Board members present were: Michael Martin, William Cotter, Margaret Kleber, Sinead Duffy, Grace Shin, Meg Cooper, and Asim Aleem. Also present, Dr. Hector Garcia, Superintendent.

Pledge of Allegiance

Bill Cotter led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Comments

No public comments.

Certification of Board Elections Results - Approval as Presented

Michael Martin made a motion to approve the Certification of April 1, 2025, School Board Election Results submitted by the DuPage County Election Commission and the Cook County Clerk and declared William Cotter, Grace Shin, and Adam East elected to the Community Consolidated School District 181. Sinead Duffy seconded the motion. On roll call, the following members voted “Aye:” Meg Cooper, Asim Aleem, William Cotter, Margaret Kleber, Grace Shin, Michael Martin, and Sinead Duffy. “Nay:” None. The motion carried.

Recognition of Board Members

Board Member Grace Shin read a statement thanking Michael Martin for his four years of service to the District 181 Board of Education.

Dr. Garcia said thank you on behalf of the D181 community for his dedication and commitment to the students and staff.

Board President Bill Cotter thanked Mr. Martin for his four years of service and dedication to CCSD 181.

Oath of Office

Dr. Hector Garcia read the Oath of Office, along with the newly elected Board members, Margaret Cooper, Margaret Kleber, Asim Aleem, and Sinead Duffy, and swore the new Board members into Office.

Convene Board of Education

Roll Call

Jean Duggan, Recording Secretary, took roll call at 5:13 p.m.. Board members present were: Meg Cooper, William Cotter, Margaret Kleber, Sinead Duffy, Grace Shin, Adam East, and Asim Aleem. Also present, Dr. Hector Garcia, Superintendent.

Oath of Office

Bill Cotter read the Oath of Office, along with the newly elected Board members, Bill Cotter, Adam East, and Grace Shin, and swore the new Board members into Office.

Selection of Officers

Board President

Board President Bill Cotter asked for nominations for Board President.

Margaret Kleber nominated Bill Cotter for Board President.

No other nominations were presented.

Margaret Kleber made a motion to approve Bill Cotter as Board President for a one-year term. Margaret Cooper seconded the motion. On roll call, the following members voted “Aye:” Grace Shin, Margaret Kleber, Adam East, William Cotter, Asim Aleem, Margaret Cooper, and Sinead Duffy. “Nay:” None. The motion carried.

Board Vice President

Board President Bill Cotter nominated Grace Shin for Board Vice President. No other nominations were presented.

Meg Cooper made a motion to approve Grace Shin as Vice President of the Board of Education for a one-year term. Asim Aleem seconded the motion. On roll call, the following members voted “Aye:” Asim Aleem, William Cotter, Adam East, Grace Shin, Sinead Duffy, Margaret Kleber, and Margaret Cooper. “Nay:” None. The motion carried.

Board Secretary

Board President Bill Cotter nominated Margaret Kleber as Board Secretary.

No other nominations were presented.

Grace Shin made a motion to approve Margaret Kleber as Board Secretary of the Board of Education for a one-year term. Meg Cooper seconded the motion. On roll call, the following members voted “Aye:” Sinead Duffy, Grace Shin, Asim Aleem, Adam East, William Cotter, Margaret Cooper, and Margaret Kleber. “Nay:” None. The motion carried.
