John Wood Community College Executive Committee met April 21.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
The Executive Committee met on April 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area. Mr. Bob Rhea, Ms. Paula Hawley, participated in person and Mr. Andy Sprague participated via Zoom. Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker participated in-person.
April Board packet items were reviewed.
Election Results will be reviewed this month, installation of the two newly elected trustees and student, trustee, recognition of outgoing student trustee and one trustee. Reorganization of the Board will be done as well as committee selections.
Consent items:
Minutes, bills, travel expenditures, and financials will be presented. In addition, two lab fees are being proposed for Bio 121 and Bio 122 and reactivation of Hospitality Management course, a new course in Engineering, and a new certificate/courses in Welding.
Grant items:
No grant items are being presented in April.
Business Items:
Business items presented are lease agreements for space with University of Illinois at the Orr facility and at the Mt. Sterling facility, acceptance of a proposal and awarding Gerber tours as the vendor to provide travel for Upward Bound program, adoption of the college calendar for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, and authorization to accept and award Advanced Technologies the bid for Solar and Wind Turbine installation in the amount of $38,366.

Discussion items
New Trustee orientation – Mr. Rhea, Dr. Barkley, Mr. Welker, and Dr. Renfro will meet with the newly elected trustee, R. Kent Snider, for orientation. A date will be set upon confirmation from Mr. Snider.
Spring Retreat date - The Executive Committee discussed dates. A date was selected but due to a commitment the selection date this is being explored again.
Graduation - Graduation is May 16. A reception will be held prior to graduation for Board members and their spouse to have some light refreshments. Details will be included in the table folder.
