Mary Miller, the representative for Illinois' 15th Congressional District, said that President Trump has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to peace concerning the negotiations for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
"President Trump has once again demonstrated remarkable leadership and a true commitment to peace at home and abroad," said Mary E. Miller, U.S. Representative of Illinois's 15th congressional district (R), according to Facebook. "This will save thousands of lives. Thank you, Mr. President!!"
Miller shared a post from President Trump, in which he wrote, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. According to Reuters, the ceasefire followed four days of strikes and counterstrikes between India and Pakistan's military installations. The report included comments from various world leaders, including United Nations Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric. Dujarric conveyed a message from Secretary-General António Guterres: "The Secretary-General welcomes the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan as a positive step toward ending current hostilities and easing tensions. He hopes the agreement will contribute to lasting peace and foster an environment conducive to addressing broader, longstanding issues between the two countries."
Hours after Trump's announcement of the ceasefire, NBC News reported that India's government accused Pakistan of violating the agreement. Vikram Misri, India's foreign secretary, said in a statement: "This intrusion is extremely condemnable and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion." However, prior to this accusation, NBC News reported that both countries' foreign ministers had confirmed the ceasefire agreement.
