John Wood Community College Executive Committee met March 12.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met on March 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area.  Mr. Bob Rhea, Ms. Paula Hawley, and Mr. Andy Sprague trustees participated via Zoom. Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker participated in-person. 

March Board packet items were reviewed. 

Consent items:

Minutes, bills, travel expenditures, and financials will be presented as normal.  The committee heard the curriculum item will be removed from the March meeting agenda for further discussion with faculty to be presented at a later date.

Grant items:

No grant items are being presented in March.

Business Items:

No business items are being presented in March.

Personnel

Personnel items discussed will be shared in closed session.

Discussion items

Property – Discussion continues on facility/property options in Pittsfield and the possible option to purchase land adjacent to the main campus. 

Caring Campus Update – The faculty portion of Caring Campus has begun.  Ten to twelve faculty members were identified and interviewed by the vice president of Instruction to lead the faculty initiative of Caring Campus.  Four dates have been identified for faculty to interact with the Caring Campus consultant with a fall start. 

Rural Pathways Update – The Rural Pathways introductory meeting was held on Monday.  Our representative is Laura Rittner.  The administrative team will be attending the conference beginning March 19 in New Orleans.    

Nursing Accreditation Update - The self-study document has been drafted.  Our accreditation is scheduled for November 10th.   In addition, Dr. Renfro and Dr. Barkley recently met with Blessing officials discussing nursing options.   

Board Election/Orientation - April 1 is the board trustee election.  After the results are known, an orientation session is scheduled with the newly elected trustees.  The Executive committee discussed length of orientation and proposed items.  A timeline will be included in the table folder.

Discussion also was held on a possible press release.

Spring Retreat date – A date to have a board Spring retreat was discussed.  Administration was directed to propose a date/s between the middle of May and first part of June. (these dates will be provided in the table folder)

Other - Discussion on baccalaureate degrees at community colleges was discussed.  An initiative by the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents with Illinois legislation has been in the works.  A House Bill is underway to support this. 

Ms. Hawley stated superintendents recently met and expressed their support.
