A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Quincy Public School District #172 on January 28, 2025. The request, made by Quincy Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought access to specific emails and memos from the past year.

The records requested specifically pertain to any correspondence containing the keywords “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. As members of the media, we at Quincy Reporter are committed to gathering and reporting news that is in the public interest. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. This request is in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
