Central Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Dec. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education met at 6:30 p.m. on December 19, 2024 for their regular meeting in the board of education office. Following the prayer and pledge, Vice President Cooley called the meeting to order. There were no guests present, the meeting continued and the current agenda was approved.

Board Action Items

The following was approved as presented

• Adoption of the 2024 Tax Levy.

• Approve transferring revenue of $106,797 from Ed to O & M fund.

• Approve transferring expense of $3,585 from Transportation to O &M fund.

• Approve resolution to support Vision 2030.

• Approve review and update to Facilities Use Agreement. • Reject Ursa Farmers Coop’s settlement offer dated November 18, 2024.

Committee Action Items

Building

• Snow rail will be ordered and installed on the Multi-Purpose building above the entrance.

• Approve track resurfacing contract with Fisher Tracks Inc.

o Project estimated cost $130,825 with additional concrete cost for jumping areas.

Policy

• The Board approved the second reading of policy changes recommended by the Illinois Association of School Boards:

o 2:105, 2:110, 2:120, 4:30, 4:60, 4:150, 4:170, 5:10, 5:20, 5:30, 5:35, 5:90, 5:1 20, 5:125, 5:230, 6:60, 6:135, 6:270, 7:10, 7:100, 7:180, 7:200: 8:10

Finance

• Met on 12/10/24.

• Presented annual average expenditures of operating funds.

Curriculum

• Met on 12/12/24.

o Curriculum evaluations will begin in January; will be looking at how the curriculum is being used and if’s being used to its full potential and what help or training can be offered to maximize or materials.

o Looking at 3rd through 5/6th math curriculum to help support newer teachers, refresh the material and to maximize learning in the classroom. We want to tap into a teacher’s expertise and train them at being trainers for new teachers.

o CEC

▪ UFLI Phonics will be used again next year. Teachers have both pros and cons to this curriculum, but overall like the format and the growth they are seeing with students.

o CES

▪ Positive Behavior Intervention.

• Teacher training on early intervention for behaviors in the classroom.

▪ There are some phonics concerns that need to be addressed, UFLI Phonics will be implemented next year.

o CJHS

▪ Vocabulary consistency is an issue from grade to grade and building to building. We need to make sure that the same vocabulary is being used in the specific curriculum in each building to allow a continuity in learning from grade to grade.

▪ Spelling is behind at the 8th grade level, we need to look at that gap and assessing how to narrow it for the upcoming grades. Is this gap related to the COVID learning years or is there a deficiency in the curriculum?

o CHS

▪ Transitioning to the ACT from the SAT.

▪ Looking for a pre-ACT experience for juniors.

▪ There are 8 students taking the AP Bio exam and 5 students taking the AP Chem exam. The Panther Pride Foundation will help pay for a portion of the test and the district will pick up the remaining cost.

• Next meeting will be 2/13/25.

Informational/Discussion Items

• The board acknowledged the following:

o Elijah Genenbacher was selected as the December Senior of the Month.

o Martin Nall was nominated for the prestigious Section 11 Golden Owl Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to agricultural education.

o Several thank you notes were passed around.

Administrator Reports

Amanda Shoopman – Central Early Childhood

• Student Enrollment = 117

• Cherie Sherfy was named December’s Staff Member of the Month.

• Welcomed 44 volunteers and 145 students into the building for the Kiddie Bazaar.

• Celebrated Shapesgiving, CEC’s version of Thanksgiving.

• Took the STAR tests for 2nd quarter.

• Read books with 6th graders from CJHS.

Chevi Ingalls – Central Elementary

• Student Enrollment = 226

• The 3rd/4th Grade Holiday Moosical was a big success.

• Miss Hildebrand’s class practiced their spelling words with shaving cream.

• Playground funds so far = $22,820

Tracy Rhea – Central Jr. High

• Student Enrollment = 218

• Jr. High Cheerleaders will be participating in a cheer competition January 10th and 11th, in Lemont, Illinois.

• Mrs. Walker started Drama Club the week of Thanksgiving and there are 16 Jr. High Students participating.

• Students of the 2nd Quarter

o 5th Grade – Ashdyn Wagner & Eli Ehrhardt

o 6th Grade – Melania Seneczko & Declan Neisen

o 7th Grade – Sophie Tenhouse & Easton Rhea

o 8th Grade – Braelyn Cole & Jensen Demoss

Zak Huston – Central High School

• Student Enrollment = 227

• The 5-12 Christmas Showcase held on December 14th was a huge success.

• Financial Aid night was held at the high school to assist parents in filling out FAFSA.

• Elijah Genenbacher was named IHSFCA Class 1A All-State.

• Kadin Niekamp was named IHSFCA Class 1A All-State Honorable Mention.

• All Conference Team – WIVC – North Division – Nathan Post, Elijah Genenbacher, Jase Wallace, Jaden Summy, Nate Peters, Zack Wear, Kadin Niekamp, Konnor bush, Wyatt VanDeVelde, Tate Eicken, Marco Rodriguez, Jack Wees, Jasper Flesner and Curtis Rigg. Superintendent Report

o FOIA request – SMART Procure

o Superintendent evaluation in January

o We will set a date, time and location for the Board Retreat at the January meeting.

o HS GPA Adjustment discussed.

Executive Session

• Held at 7:40 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:23 p.m.
