Call to Order
The Academic Success Committee meeting of the Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District 181, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, was called to order at noon by Grace Shin, Board Member, and Committee Chair at noon on December 5, 2024.
On roll call, the following members were present: William Cotter and Grace Shin.
Dr. Kathy Robinson, Kristin Reingruber, Erica Ekstrom, Sara Clary, Jake Wertz, Chaidan Leshinski, and Recording Secretary Jean Duggan were also present.
Pledge of Allegiance
Grace Shin led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Approval of Minutes
Grace Shin made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 7, 2024, Academic Success Committee meeting. Bill Cotter seconded the motion. All in favor, the motion carried.

Discussion Topics
K-5 ELA Resource Pilot Update
Dr. Robinson shared an overview of the K-5 ELA resource pilot that will take place during the 2025-2026 school year. She said that this is the initial planning stage for the pilot. She mentioned that her department connected with other local school districts, the Regional Office of Education, and the Illinois State Board of Education.
Dr. Robinson said the District’s target is a 5-year curriculum renewal cycle. The last K-5 ELA resource pilot and purchase was in 2019 for the 2019-2020 school year implementation of Fountas and Pinnell Classroom. The Department of Learning, ELA SAC Principals, & TOSAs started researching and previewing resources in the spring of 2024.
The ELA Subject Area Committee has been reviewing and narrowing down resources during the 2024-2025 school year for a 2025-2026 pilot. The Resource Review List

Dr. Robinson confirmed that the staff will receive professional development on the new resource.
District-level Committee Updates:
The Department of Learning updated the committee on the District-level Committee meetings.
