John Wood Community College Curriculum Committee met Nov. 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Curriculum meeting commenced at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Attendees included Mr. Don Hess, Trustee; Dr. Bryan Renfro, President; Dr. Shelley Barkley, Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs; and Kristina Johnson, Notetaker. Dr. Randy Greenwell, Trustee, was absent.

The board reviewed updates to the Surgical Technology program, including restructuring courses to align more closely with similar programs, reducing large credit-hour courses, and dividing content into separate sections for didactic, lab, and clinical learning. This adjustment will also streamline the course flow and reduce the program's credit hours to 61, meeting the Illinois Community College Board's recommendation to keep programs at or near a 60-credit-hour maximum.

The board received an update on changes to the curriculum approval protocol form, requiring the upload of updated curriculum mapping when course or program outcomes are modified, and the change form is submitted. These revisions aim to strengthen faculty assessment practices by closely tracking curriculum mapping for course and program goals. Including these requirements during course development or modification ensures comprehensive research and thorough justification for any adjustments. The primary goal is to improve assessment tracking at both the course and program levels.

Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
