Liberty Community Unit School District 2 Board of Education met Oct. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Members present: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. Absent: none 7 present. Also present: Kelle Bunch, Jody Obert, Kimberly Harrison, Melissa Straley, Sarah Sweeting, Grace Ross, Brittany Cromie, Tennille Gimm, Abbie Hoener, Madelyn Hyer, Jamie Mixer, Alisia Pittman, Laci Heller and Chris Taylor.

Dan Sparrow arrived at 6:40 p.m.

Emmie Winkeljohn arrived at 7:00 p.m.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Baucom that the board of education approves the Routine Consent Agenda. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Baucom, seconded by Mowen that the board of education approves the Consent Agenda, except line item C regarding the extension of the Pepsi contract. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Obert that the board of education approve the Washington DC trip for 7th/8th graders at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Cecil that the board of education approve the recommendations by the facilities committee of getting three bids for air in the big gym and planting of trees/bushes from Frese Ornamental. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Applying for the Maintenance Grant FY25 has been tabled for the next meeting.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Mixer that the board of education approve establishing Color Guard as its own club with an activity fund. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Obert seconded by Mowen that the board goes into closed session. Time: 8:53 p.m. Meeting in Closed Session on the following subjects: a) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or specific volunteers of the School District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves, as an independent contractor, or a volunteer of the District.; b) collective negotiating matters between the School District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; c) the purchase or lease of real property for the use of the District; d) the setting of a price for sale or lease of property owned by the District; e) the sale or purchase of securities, investments, or investment contracts; f) emergency security procedures; g) student disciplinary cases; h) the placement of individual students in special education programs and other matters relating to individual students; i) pending, probable, or imminent litigation; j) evaluation of attorney; k) approval of certain closed session minutes for distribution to the public; or other matters appropriate for a closed meeting pursuant to the Open Meetings Act. Motion by Obert, seconded by Baucom that the board of education go out of closed session. 10:45 p.m. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Baucom, seconded by Cecil that the board of education approve the personnel report. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Cecil, Derhake, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.
