Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Oct. 17.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
CALL TO ORDER
Lisa Schwartz called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Roll was taken with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer, Russ Board, Danelle Donley, Cory Hagerbaumer, Trista Neisen and Lisa Schwartz. Keith Barry was absent.
Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Greg Buescher, Barb Speckhart and Nancy Cromie.

PUBLIC
Mark Hickey gave an update on the history trip planned for the summer of 2026.
TECH REPORT
Barb Speckhart shared that several HS devices were in the process of being repaired. Equipment purchased through eRate funding has arrived.
AD REPORT
Lauren Bentzinger submitted a report on the status of current sports.
CONSENT AGENDA
Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Donna Veile shared an update on the speed sign removal per IDOT. The district report card will be released at the end of the month. The curriculum committee met to discuss new programs, MAP scores and School Improvement Plans.
SALARY AND BENEFITS REPORT
Neisen made a motion to approve the salary and benefits report. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None
EXTENDED BUS LEASE AGREEMENT
Hagerbaumer made a motion to approve extending the bus lease to 3.5 years. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None
ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT
Julie Phelan talked about Special Persons Day. PBIS hold a weekly grade level drawing for those following the PRIDE expectations. 4th grade took their annual trip to visit the Lincoln sites in Springfield. Upcoming events include parent/teacher conferences, Read Night, and the Veteran’s Day Program. A Kindergarten curriculum update was presented.
SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT
Greg Buescher shared a report about staff trainings, parent/teacher conferences, band and FFA activities. The All School Picnic will be held on the 18th. Instead of grade level competitions, it will now be grouped by Houses. A slideshow was presented with some recent student activities.
MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION
Donley made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None
Moved into closed session at 7:31 p.m.
RETURN TO OPEN SESSION

There was discussion on the stage curtain and the speed sign.
