Central Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Sept. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education met at 6:36 p.m. on September 26, 2024 for their regular meeting in the district board office.

Following the prayer and pledge, President Kestner called the regular meeting to order. Guest present: Nikki Buehler. President Kestner asked if there were any question and/or comments, hearing none, the meeting continued.

Committee Action Items

Building 

• Have not met.

• A date will be set in the next few weeks to discuss ideas for the School Maintenance Grant.

o Continue with Jr. High Driveway Project.

o Playground

o Resurface the track

o Baseball Bleachers

o Press Box/Crow’s Nest Updates

o Girls Locker Room in the High School

• Mrs. Smith will check the grant guidelines.

Policy 

• Approve the first reading of PRESS Policy Updates. 2:260, 2:265, 5:100, 7:20, 7:185.

• Approve review and update to District Bullying Prevention Policy.

Finance 

• Adopted the 2024-2025 budget.

Curriculum 

• Meeting October 3rd.

Approvals/Action Items

• Approve overnight trip to National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN October 23rd – 25th.

• Approve overnight trip to Women Changing the Face of Agriculture in Carbondale, IL March 6th & 7th.

• Approve 2024-2025 Risk Management Plan.

Amanda Shoopman – Central Early Childhood 

Enrollment (Updated 9/18/24) 

• 1 student re-enrolled in the district

This month we…. 

• Began Title groups.

• Named Brandon Schmidt Staff

Member of the Month.

• Visited with CoJack, the therapy dog.

• Smiled for the cameras on picture day.

• Greeted the CHS Football Team players on the morning of the Homecoming game.

• Opened the Panther Store so kids can cash-in points for good behavior.

• Practiced fire, tornado, and bus drills.

• Discussed future family events.

Curriculum Director Report 

UFLI 

• Kindergarten teachers are officially beginning teaching UFLI in their classrooms. • The kindergarten team meets with Mrs. Shoopman every other week to plan out lessons

Professional Development 

• Twenty-four staff members attended a virtual professional development opportunity through Renaissance, with the focus of working with essential STAR data. STAR benchmark norms, scaled scores, and national percentile ranks were discussed.

Participants were introduced to several different types of reports that could be helpful to both drive their instruction and create differentiated lessons for small groups.

Chevi Ingalls – Central Elementary

• Took a 4th grade field trip to the fair grounds

• Ag in the classroom 

• Playground design (fundraising has begun) 

• CHS football team visiting CES during homecoming week

Tracy Rhea – Central Jr. High 

5th – 8th grade enrollment Active Students 

5th grade = 60 students

6th grade = 42 students

7th grade = 60 students Total = 221 Students 

8th grade = 59 students

This month…. 

• Too Good for Drugs 

o Carrie Sohn from the ROE has begun meeting with

7th/8th graders during Science.

• 5th Grade D.A.R.E. 

o Deputy Doellman meets with Ms. Haschemeyer’s

5th grade Social Studies class on Tuesday’s.

Zak Huston – Central High School 

Student Enrollment - 228

School News: 

• Claire Huston- September Senior of the Month

• Homecoming was this past week. The theme this year was Holidays

Celebrate Homecoming with CHS

• The Party on the Prairie was September 19th and included the annual powderpuff game and class tug-of-war. The night concluded with the bonfire being lit by the football team.

• The Homecoming game was Friday, September 20th, against Unity.

• The Homecoming Dance was on the 21st from 7-10.

• Jostens was here to meet with the Seniors for graduation orders.

• The volleyball team won the Gold Bracket at the Suns Classic. Karly Peters and Lauren Miller were named to the all- tournament team.

Homecoming Themes: 

• Seniors- Halloween

• Juniors- Christmas

• Sophomores- 4th of July

• Freshman- New Year’s Eve

Communication and Information from Superintendent

• Update on LED radar signs – Mrs. Smith will be sending out letters and refund checks to all that donated and let them know why the project is not going to happen. • Encore Sound will be installing a new sound system in the South Gym. The Multi Purpose Building will also have a sound system installed.

• Ham and Turkey’s will be given to staff again this year for Christmas. Executive Session
