Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Sept. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Lisa Schwartz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Roll was taken with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer, Keith Barry, Russ Board, Danelle Donley, Cory Hagerbaumer, Trista Neisen and Lisa Schwartz were present.

Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Greg Buescher, Barb Speckhart and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS

Shelley Flesner, Blake Hiland, Tori Davenport, Karrie Wolf, Gary Hagerbaumer, Jonathan Dolbeare, Tahnee Bauer, Joni Hazelrigg, Richard Martin, Sara Hankins, Nicole Williamson, Ashley Powers, Nicole Gibson, Barbie Hedberg, James Hedberg, Nicholas Orrill, Leanna Orrill, Brody Davis, Scott Doellman, Sam Smith

PUBLIC

Several visitors addressed the board regarding their concerns with school safety.TECH REPORTBarb Speckhart gave an update on technology. Upgrades at the ball diamond have been completed. Background work in Skyward is progressing. Teachers received new chromebooks.

AD REPORT

Lauren Bentzinger submitted a report on the status of current sports. T-Mobile has reached out to offer a sponsorship.

CONSENT AGENDA

Albsmeyer made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

2024-25 BUDGET

Donley made a motion to open the 2024-25 budget hearing. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

The only public comment was in regards to the amount for the HS dues and fees category.

Neisen made a motion to close the 2024-25 budget hearing. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

Donley made a motion to approve the 2024-25 budget. Albsmeyer seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Donna Veile shared with the board that IDOT wants to remove the radar sign because of permit issues. Another $50,000.00 maintenance grant application has opened up. There is an agreement with the ROE to host short-term sub training for those interested. There has been interest shown in taking a History trip overseas during summer break and would not be a school sponsored trip. The wrestling program will be moving forward with JH athletes.

HAZARDOUS BUS ROUTES

Albsmeyer motioned to approve the annual hazardous bus routes as listed on the agenda. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

IASB POLICIES

Barry made a motion to approve the second reading of the IASB policies as listed on the agenda. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Julie Phelan reported that MAP testing had been completed. The first TRIBE opportunity will take place on September 27th, with students completing a getting to know you activity. The PTO fundraiser ended on September 18th. She then shared a curriculum update from PreK.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Greg Buescher also reported that MAP testing had been completed. There will be Social Emotional Learning training for staff on September 27th.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION

Neisen made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Donley seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: NoneMoved into closed session at 7:42 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION

Donley made a motion to return to open session. Barry seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: NoneReturned to open session at 10:07 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM

Barry made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Neisen seconded the motion. AYE: Albsmeyer, Barry, Board, Donley, Hagerbaumer, Neisen and Schwartz NAY: None
