John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Sept. 12.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met on September 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area.  Mr. Bob Rhea, Mr. Andy Sprague, and Ms. Paula Hawley, trustees participated via Zoom. Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker participated in person.

September Board packet was reviewed.  This included the consent agenda items, grant items, personnel items, and business items.

Grant items included two applications of funds and two acceptances of funds. 

The Business items included transfer of funds from Operating Fund to O & M restricted Fund and Auxiliary Fund.  The third item is authorization to accept a bid from United Systems, Inc. for the Door Access proposal.  This bid was noted for the main campus.  Dr. Renfro will investigate options for the outlying centers.

Personnel

Dr. Renfro shared the vacant position of Director of the Workforce Development Center search resulted in a difference between salary offered and expectations of applications.  Administration is reevaluating the direction at this time.  

Discussion items

PACT agreement – After reviewing the PACT agreement Administration decided presented the agreement for adoption at the October Board meeting.  Minor adjustments will be made to the starting date of payment of rent. A timeline on the project was also discussed.

Fall Retreat – The Fall retreat date is scheduled for Monday, October 7 at the Workforce Development Center.  Dr. Renfro will invite Jim Reed, ICCTA director to attend and share information on the ICCTA state level activities. 

Administration is working on the board retreat identified priorities from the Spring retreat.  These priorities have been assigned to individuals within the College, noting action items in need of being completed and timeline.  Dr. Renfro will provide this updated board priorities list to all at the retreat. 

Legislators on campus - Dr. Renfro shared legislators toured the main campus and WDC. The visit was well received.  Norine Hammond, Jil Tracy, and Neil Anderson were on campus August 20 with C.D. Davidsmeyer visiting on August 29.  A list of projects from the College will be sent as a follow-up.

Trustee Election – The committee heard four candidates have picked-up a trustee election packet.  Filing is November 12-18, 2024.     

Recognition Celebration - Jim Rapp, legal counsel, will be honored on December 5 at the Quincy Country Club for 50 years of service to John Wood Community College. Further details of the event will be forthcoming.

TDT 30th Anniversary Celebration - On September 25 at the Workforce Development Center the College will host an event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of TDT.    An invitation/details is included in your table folder.

Other

Southeast Education Center / Main Campus - Due to the recent death of Mr. Brink, landlord of the Southeast Education Center Dr. Renfro is in the process of scheduling a meeting to follow-up on the status due to the change.

Dr. Renfro will also schedule a meeting with the Deters family.

ICCTA West Central Region Meeting - This meeting is scheduled at Black Hawk College in Moline– Quad City campus on September 24 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Dr. Renfro will be attending.

Facilities Master Plan – Klingner Associates has provided a proposal to update the 2019 JWCC facility master plan.  The facilities consist of 11 buildings that support academic and student life, and this Master Plan will guide future development for all of the facilities.  Discussion followed on this proposal.
