Today was the scheduled adjournment day for the House, but it did not take place. Speaker Welch has scheduled sessions for both Saturday and Sunday due to delays in finalizing the budget. House Republicans have been excluded from the budget process this year and have yet to see any proposals from the Democrat majority. Recently, it was confirmed that Governor Pritzker’s budget proposal includes an $800 million deficit. He is reportedly leveraging support for proposed tax increases by threatening cuts to programs favored by legislative Democrats.

A judge has issued a temporary injunction blocking a new mid-cycle elections law passed by Democrats earlier this month. The House held its Memorial Day ceremony this week to honor members of the U.S. Armed Forces who lost their lives in service to the nation. Memorial Day, observed on Monday, serves as a reminder of these brave individuals while also marking the beginning of summer.

Germanfest 2024 will be held on Friday, May 31 (5pm-11pm) and Saturday, June 1 (3pm-11pm) in Quincy’s South Park. The event will feature German music, food, and refreshments and is free and open to the public.
