Central Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met March 21.

The Board of Education met at 6:30 p.m. on March 21, 2024, for their regular meeting in the board of education office.

Following the prayer and pledge, President Kestner called the meeting to order. Guests present: Nikki Buehler, Kayla Mock, Daniel Mock, Tami Wisely, Jared Eicken, Celia Eicken, Andy Eyler, Kelly Eyler, Jesse Hoosier, April Hoosier, Julie Heinecke, Zach Wallace, Jase Wallace, Kelsey Schmiedeskamp, Lindsey Wiskirchen, Ashley Paben, Nicole Blewett, Jason Aeilts, Ashley Aeilts, Deb Rhea and several late arrivals not on the sign-in sheet.

President Kestner asked if there were any questions and/or comments from the public, hearing none, the meeting continued.

Co-Op Discussion

• Central administrators met with Southeastern administrators last week to explore co-op possibilities. Coach Long shared with the board information about participation numbers for certain high school sports and examples of what the AD’s put together of what a co-op with Southeastern could look like for boys’ basketball, cheerleading, baseball and softball. Our current girls’ basketball, wrestling, and track co-ops were not considered for any changes. The board asked questions and will wait for public feedback before making any decisions on what direction to move.

Committee Action Items

Building

• We received two quotes on polished concrete floor in the Lego Gym/ JH Lunchroom. We will reach out to one more company for a quote and bring that information back to the next board meeting.

Policy

• The committee has not met.

• Handbooks changes are being worked on and will be brought to the policy committee for review before the next board meeting.

Finance

• The committee has not met.

Curriculum

• The curriculum committee will meet on April 11th at CMS.

Board Action Items

• Renewed mowing contract with Darren Vertrees for one month with plans to look at revised contract next month.

• Renewal and agreement to abide by IHSA Constitution, By-Laws, Policies.

• Approved Offering Advanced Placement classes at CHS.

• Approved Senior Class Trip.

Informational/Discussion Items

• Congratulations to Lily Holt for being named senior of the month for March.

• Fee Schedule/CEP/Healthy Meals for All

o Currently looking into the possibility of free meals for all students starting next school year. We will hold off on the fee schedule until further research can be done.

Building Report

Chevi Ingalls – Central Elementary School

o Enrollment Numbers – 208 students

o Heart Challenge raised $5,942.73.

o We had dinosaurs in the building!

o Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and dress up day was a big deal at CES!

o Land of Smiles presentation on taking care of our teeth!

Amanda Shoopman – Central Middle School

o Enrollment Numbers – 115 students

o Alison Myer was named staff member of the month.

o Academic Fair had a great turnout.

o Magic Mr. Nick’s Dinosaur Crew presentation.

o CMS raised $4,666.38 for the Kid’s Heart Challenge.

o Curriculum Director Report

o Spanish curriculum has been approved for purchase.

o AP textbook samples have been requested for next year’s AP Bio and AP Chem classes.

o Looking at purchasing Nearpod for JH/HS.

Tracy Rhea – Central Junior High School

o Enrollment numbers – 224 students

o Congratulations to the JH wrestlers that qualified for state.

o 8th grade class went to Quincy University Career Fair on March 14th.

o 5th Grade living wax museum was held on March 12th.

o Budding artist came and completed an art project with 5th and 6th grade students.

Zak Huston – Central High School

o Enrollment Numbers – 239 students

o The Drama Club held their play on March 8th and 9th in the auditorium.

o NHS Induction Ceremony was held on March 7th, 11 new members were inducted.

o Congratulations to FBLA members Madi Hester, Grace Welch, Parker Crim and Karlie Barry for winning first place in the Ethics Team Competition at Culver Stockton.

Superintendent Report

• FOIA request from the Business Center for copier lease information.

• Summer move

o On the afternoon of the SIP day last week, staff toured the new spaces they will be moving to over the summer.

o We received valuable input from the staff on things they saw that would need to be changed before school starts.

• Mini Relay for Life – May 1st, rain date May 2nd

• Last student attendance day – May 22nd

• Graduation in the South Gym– May 19th

• Held at 7:56 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:53 p.m.
