John Wood Community College Curriculum Committee will meet April 10.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

• Course change in Education

o EDU 175 – Social Issues in Educating Children

§ Currently a 2-credit hour course, proposing to extend to 3-credit hours, with modifications to the course description.

• New course in Communications

o CMN 225 - Audio/Video Communications & Production - 3 credit hours

§ The new course developed by Dr. Christine Brennemann corresponds with the anticipated Mass Media Communications program and has completed Form 13 submissions for articulation with partnering four-year institutions.

• Course changes in Philosophy

§ Several philosophy courses are undergoing updates to align with IAI standards: PHL 101, "Introduction to Philosophy" is having its description revised, PHL 111, "Logic/Critical Thinking" is being retitled to "Introduction to Critical Thinking" and its description updated, PHL 121, "Ethics," PHL 201, "Major World Religions," and PHL 211, "Philosophy of Religion" are also having their descriptions adjusted to match IAI standards. All courses will remain at 3-credit hours.

• Course fee proposal

o MFG 131 – “Maintenance Machining Fundamentals,” a new course approved in March, the fee associated with this course will cover expenses related to steel and machinery maintenance for the program. Requested fee range: $0 - $100 per credit hour, with a credit hour fee of $40.

o ELE 115 – “Electrical Troubleshooting,” a new course approved in March, the fee associated with the course will cover expenses for lab supplies and materials. Requested fee range: $0 - $30 per credit hour, with a credit hour fee of $10.
