Call to Order and Roll Call

The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Mark Hitz, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the January 31, 2024 regular meeting and closed session. Roll Call Vote:

Special Recognition

Kimberly Harrison presented the Board Excellence Awards which included February Sun of the Month, Culver Stockton Science Fair ratings, Culver Stockton Science Fair Outstanding Chapter, IESA Regional Tournament Sportsmanship Award, Hancock County Basketball Tournament All-Tournament Team, IESA Wrestling Regionals, IESA State Tournament Sportsmanship Award, 7th Grade Boys Basketball 1A 3rd Place in State, CSE Girls Varsity Basketball IHSA 2A Regional Champions and Sectional Champions.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds.

Informational Items

Superintendent Lantz presented the updated 2023-2024 School Calendar. Superintendent Lantz reviewed the 2024-2025 Open Positions.

Superintendent Lantz reviewed the 2024-2025 Social Work Services.

Administrative reports were given with Mr. Gooding reporting they are getting ready for IAR testing and reward trip following the testing. Mr. Kerr explained the IAR testing for jr. high and SAT and PSAT for high school which are all online now plus the Illinois Science assessment. He also thanked everyone for their support while he’s been off with his dad who is ill. There has been some interest in starting up a group leadership type group for grades 7-12 which would be before or after school. Mrs. Harrison talked about Homecoming week and the Homecoming dance; she would like to thank Mrs. Schwagmeyer-Belger for being the DJ. She also reported discipline issues were up the month of February with a breakdown of the categories. Mr. Rigg reported on the regionals we have hosted this year– he has received a lot of compliments on our facilities.

On a motion by Member Tippey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:05 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity; student disciplinary cases; and discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for purposes of school board approval of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes as required by the Act.

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Bunnell, the Board of Education approved the 2024 high school graduation date for Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Southeastern Jr/Sr High School at 2:00 p.m.
