John Wood Community College Executive Committee met Feb. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met on February 15, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in room C252 Student Administrative Center, president’s area. Mr. Bob Rhea, Mr. Andy Sprague, Ms. Paula Hawley, trustees; participated via, Zoom. Dr. Bryan Renfro, president, and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.

February Board of Trustees Agenda items reviewed:

Consent Agenda

Regular Board minutes, bills, travel expenditures, financials, and curriculum item.

Grant

Three grant applications to ICCB were presented for discussion. They included:

• FY24 Noncredit Workforce Training Initiative Requested Amount $100,000

• Access and Equity Dual Credit Project Requested Amount: $101,300

• FY24/FY25 CTE Virtual Reality in Manufacturing grant Requested Amount: $75,036

One grant acceptance was presented:

• Amount total received: $595,000 over a three-year period from the Department of Energy through ICCB for “Illinois Advancing Clean Energy project”

Personnel

Discussion was held on the status of several key open vacant positions within the College. All current job listings can be found posted on the JWCC website.

Contract of the president is reviewed in February and will be discussed in closed session.

Business Agenda

• Tenure recommendations being presented were discussed.

• Contributions from Rotary Club of Quincy ($50,000) and Gardner-Denver ($25,000) were received to name the commons area and Computer Aided Design classroom respectively at the WDC. It was noted this is being presented in accordance with our Board Policy 715 - Naming of Board Property.

• Discussed approving two dual credit discount tuition rates for fall 2024 term. Detail information will be shared in the proposed agenda memo.

• Discussed acceptance of a bid for a Robotic Trainer.

Discussion items

Juneteenth - In working with the Academic Calendar the topic of Juneteenth was discussed. A proposal will be presented regarding this date along with the Academic Calendar at the March Board meeting.

TIF Update - Dr. Renfro shared he attended a meeting at the Quincy City Chambers office where the proposed East TIF district was discussed. It was passed.

Spring Enrollment Numbers – Spring enrollment numbers are showing an increase of 2%. With an enrollment increase for fall and spring JWCC is showing a 7%-9% increase.

Foundation Strategic Plan – The Foundation board held a Strategic Planning session. Goals were established. Upon completion of thire document, it will be shared with the JWCC board.

University Transfer Center - The College established a University Transfer Center in the library for representatives of various universities to be housed. A schedule will be available showing the dates and times representatives will be on campus. A ribbon-cutting for the center is planned for February 29 @ 11:00 a.m. in the library.

Correctional Institutions - Recently the intergovernmental agreement which has been in place with Illinois Correctional prisons. to deliver educational programs is up for renewal. Notification from the state was sent to all community colleges of an opportunity to offer educational offerings from their institution. If a community college is interested in this opportunity you were asked to submit an intent to be considered by early February. This is just intent. Further exploration of the details, cost, delivery of instruction is being examined to see if this opportunity is what the College would like to pursue.

Spring Retreat Date - The Executive Committee proposed three dates for a Spring retreat. They were May 1, May 2 and May 29. These dates will be shared at the Board meeting to finalize. It was discussed to have Leadership team attend the morning session with Board only meeting in the afternoon.
