Central Community Unit School District 3 Curriculum Committee met Nov. 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order – Andrea Foss, Kindel Kestner, Chevi Ingalls, Ashley Aeilts, Amanda Shoopman, Madison Reuschel, Tracy Rhea, Leah Zeitler, Zak Huston, Erica Smith

2. Proud to be a Panther

a. CES- Piloting Orton Gillingham in 2nd grade – going great, kids are using hand gestures, anxious to see assessment data

b. CMS- Graphic organizers/standard alignment – using these for Tier I RTI

c. CJHS- Science & Wordly Wise – Mrs. O’Dear, who has taught several other districts, says our new Science curriculum is the best she’s used; Wordly Wise is very beneficial and worthwhile

d. CHS- SAT Prep – our SAT prep classes seem to be paying off; our students’ scores were over 500 in both ELA and Math, far surpassing the state; all other schools in the area scored below 500

e. Superintendent- Curriculum alignments with state learning standards – based on our State Report Card and testing scores, our curriculum is well aligned to the standards and teachers are picking the right things to teach in Math, ELA, and Science

3. More Information Please – everyone agreed they would like to increase their knowledge of RTI, their utilization, and their time available; Mrs. Smith had shared a contact with Mr. Rhea already to get additional resources and possibly some PD; he will share with all

a. CES- RTI

b. CMS- Writing curriculum

c. CJHS- RTI assistance

d. CHS- RTI for Weekly grades/More RTI periods

4. Let’s Figure It Out – both CES and CMS struggle to figure out what and where to teach regarding SS and Science; there is some imbedded in My View, but not enough; CMS uses Scholastic for SS; both would like more guidance

a. CES- Science/SS Curriculum, Time struggles for enrichment/fun activities

b. CMS- Social Studies curriculum

c. CJHS- Adding spelling to ELA curriculum – checking into IXL spelling, which we already have

d. CHS- Vocational student performance – considering putting some “eligibility requirements” into place to optimize performance

e. Superintendent- Prioritizing and sustainability after ESSER funds are depleted – funds are basically spent; now we need to determine what is a keeper, what needs more consideration, and what we can let go, if need be
